Grimes and Leach win P1440 Future Tour Spring Championship

On March 28th and March 29th, Platform 1440 held a the 2026 Futures Tour Spring Championship in Santa Monica, CA consisting of three divisions. There were 59 teams competing in the class of 2026 and younger division, 38 teams competing in the class of 2028 and younger division and 6 teams competing in the class of 2030 and younger division.

Class of 2026 and Younger

Texas Commit Ella Grimes (2026) and USC Commit Lauren Leach (2027) won the tournament with a 4-0 record, while not dropping a single set in tournament play. In the semifinals, they defeated UCLA Commit Olivia Herron (2027) and Hawaii Commit Delaney Singleton (2026) 2-0, with set scored 0f 23-21 and 21-10. As Grimes and Leach advanced to the finals, they beat Stanford commit’s Ruby Cochrane (2026) and Olga Nikolaeva 2-0 (2026), completing a clean run with no dropped sets. Their late-round efficiency—back-to-back 2-0 wins over top competition—separated them from the field.

Cochrane and Nikolaeva finished second with a 4-1 record and an 8-3 set differential. Their closest match came in the second round of tournament play, where they edged Washington commit’s Leah Blair (2027) and Allyn Hilt (2027) 2-1 with set scores 21-17, 16-21 and 15-11, their only three-set match. They followed that with a 2-0 semifinal win over CAL commit’s Maddy Wagner 2027 and Jordyn Wilson 2027 with set scores of 21-17 and 21-16, but lost 0-2 in the finals to Grimes and Leach.

Both third-place teams, Herron and Singleton and Wagner and Wilson, went 3-1. Herron and Singleton recorded a 2-1 quarterfinal win over Sage Illian (2028) and Lucy Matuszak (2028) before losing 0-2 to Grimes and Leach in the semifinals. Wagner and Wilson also had a three-set quarterfinal, beating LSU commit Christy Boulware (2027) and FSU commit Avery Junk (2026) 2-1, then fell 0-2 to Cochrane and Nikolaeva in the semifinals. Each third-place team proved competitive in earlier rounds but were swept in the semifinals.

Class of 2028 and Younger

Kate Berry (2028) and Regina Broshear (2028) won the tournament with a 4-0 record and an 8-1 set differential. Their semifinal was decisive, beating Stacy Balestrieri (2028) and Avery Tussing (2029) 2-0 with set scores of 21-11 and 21-12. In the finals, they faced the top-seeded Sienna Mattoon (2029) and Haley Spak (2029) and won 2-0 with set scores 21-12 and 21-19, finishing the tournament with back-to-back straight-set wins over the strongest remaining teams.

Mattoon and Spak finished as runners-up with a 3-1 record and a 6-3 set differential. Their toughest match came in the quarterfinals, where they defeated Taylor Chastain and Aubree Marsden 2-1 with a third set score of 15-9. They followed that with a clean 2-0 semifinal win over Eva Dooley (2029) and Colette Sutton (2028), but lost 0-2 in the finals to Berry and Broshear, unable to win a set in the championship.

Both third-place teams, Dooley and Sutton and Balestrieri and Tussing, finished 2-1. Dooley and Sutton earned a 2-1 quarterfinal win over Sophia Graham (2028) and Hazel Williams (2028) before losing 0-2 to Mattoon and Spak in the semifinals. Balestrieri and Tussing advanced with a 2-0 quarterfinal win over Reagan Carlin (2030) and Brynn Harris (2029), then fell 0-2 to Berry and Broshear in the semifinals. Both teams reached the semifinals without dropping a set in that round but were swept there.

Class of 2030 and Younger

Zoey Kincaid (2030) and Olivia LeDoyen (2030) won the tournament with a 2-0 record in tournament play, with both matches ending straight set wins (4-0 overall). In the semifinals, they defeated Macie Patterson (2032) and Stella Winge (2030) 2-0, controlling the match throughout with set scores of 21-13 and 21-18. In the finals, they beat Tennyson Bowers (2030) and Jolene Swiggers (2030) 2-0, with set scores 21-10 and 21-16, completing a clean run without dropping a set.

Bowers and Swiggers finished second with a 1-1 record and a 2-2 set differential. In the semifinals, they beat Isabella Castro (2030) and Page Fugate (2030) 2-0 to advance. In the finals, they lost 0-2 to Kincaid and LeDoyen, unable to extend the match to a third set after a strong opening win.

Both third-place teams, Patterson and Winge and Castro and Fugate, went 1-1. Patterson and Winge opened with a 2-0 win over Krystal Nguyen (2030) and Mya Pimentel (2030), then lost 0-2 to Kincaid and LeDoyen in the semifinals. Castro and Fugate also started with a 2-0 win, defeating Sydnee Krause (2030) and Mia Meissner (2030), before falling 0-2 to Bowers and Swiggers in the semifinals. Both teams won their opening matches but were swept in the next round.
