Starting on June 18th and finishing June 24th, P1440 held their eighth and final tournament in Virginia Beach, VA concluding this years P1440 Juniors tour. The three age groups we will be focusing on in this article include the class of 2025 and younger (41 total teams), the class of 2027 and younger (25 total teams), and the class of 2028 and younger (17 total teams).
Class of 2025 and Younger
FSU commit Brynn Hughbanks (class of 2026) and FSU Signee Lennox Langham (class of 2025) won gold in the class of 2025 and younger division without losing a set in tournament play. The future Seminoles were seeded 6th at the beginning of the tournament then earned the number one seed for tournament play, receiving a bye in the first round. Three matches later, they squared up against LSU commit Christy Boulware (class of 2027) and USC commit Lauren Leach (class of 2027) in the final match of the tournament. Langham and Hughbanks would go on to win in straight sets with set scores of 21-19 and 21-18 to cap off the 2025 P1440 Juniors Tour with an impressive win in Virginia Beach.
Class of 2027 and Younger
ASU commit Kendyl Maxwell (Class of 2027) and LMU commit Izzy Ramos (Class of 2027) won first place in the class of 2027 and younger division also without dropping a set in tournament play. Maxwell and Ramos were seeded first for both the beginning of the tournament and for tournament play. The future Lion and Sundevil matched up with two class of 2028 players in Skyler Smith and Sadie Stafford in the final match of the P1440 Junior National championship. Maxwell and Ramos would go on to beat Smith and Stafford in straight sets with set scores of 21-14 and 21-19.
Class of 2028 and Younger
In the Class of 2028 and Younger division, the top seeded Sadie Stafford (class of 2028) and Danica Waterman (class of 2028) won gold after being seeded second in tournament play while knocking off Sarah Cowan (class of 2028) and Sage Illian (class of 2028) in the final match. Stafford and Waterman beat Cowan and Illian in a tight match with both sets ending in a set score of 21-18.
